Anderson Medical is a Surgical Practice which has been established in the southern aspect of Adelaide at Morphett Vale. It is bordered on one side by McLaren Vale which is a large wine-growing area. The practice specifically services southern Adelaide which is 20% of the Adelaide population of approximately 1 million people, however as the practice has developed it now caters for metropolitan Adelaide and interstate and overseas patients. Anderson Medical is located at the Southern Specialist Centre at the corner of Main South and Bains Roads, Morphett Vale.
The practice consists of Dr Paul Anderson, a surgeon who was trained in Bariatric surgery by Professor Jim Watts and Professor M. Belachew (Dr Anderson is also a specialist in gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary surgery). Associated with this practice is the Ashford Surgical Obesity Centre. This provides for complete patient care and on referral to associated specialists. The clinical director of the clinic is Dr Stephen Sabine assisted by Dr Bernie Lorenzen.
The practice and the Obesity Centre are usually available for enquiries between 9am and 5pm although there is a 24 hour service provided if there is an emergency. The growth of Anderson Medical has meant that it also features a part-time Research Assistant, who gathers data for us to enable an ongoing audit of the procedures carried out. In addition we have a strong support group which meets the first Friday of the month at the Warehouse opposite Ashford Hospital. The practice has strong links with the Psychology Department at the Adelaide University and, in particular, Dr Catherine Delin. Dr Delin is a Senior Lecturer in Psychology, and has directed research, particularly related to eating disorders/obesity.
In view of such interest in the procedure, and weight is such a large problem in Australia and other countries, we have attempted to provide on our website a brief introduction with an ongoing update of data from the procedures which Dr Anderson performs. You will also find a place where you can calculate whether your weight is such that you would qualify for this type of procedure.
